Open Houses for the General Public and Campus Community
The observatory will be open to the public for viewing celestial objects
about once per month throughout the academic year.
Please check the main observatory page for the date of the next open house.
Viewers will look through the Union College 20-inch telescope at celestial objects currently visible, such as: the Moon, planets, star clusters, nebulae, binary stars, galaxies, and other objects requested. (If there is a specific object you are interested in viewing, please email your request to Prof. Wilkin.)
Open Houses will be canceled in the event of cloudy weather. Cancellations will be announced on the Observatory Hotline at 388-7100. Call after 5:30 pm on the night of the Open House.
The Union Observatory is located on top of the Olin Center, near the center of campus, northeast of the Nott Memorial, and next to the Reamer Campus Center. To get to parking closest to the observatory, enter the campus at the intersection of Nott Street and Van Vranken Avenue. A map of the campus may be found here.
General information regarding open houses is available at the Observatory Hotline at 388-7100.
Visitors who may need extra help up the stairs are requested to contact us in advance so we may make special arrangements.
