The Four Freedoms
|
Franklin D. Roosevelt presided over the United States
during two critical periods in twentieth century U.S. history
the Great Depression and World War Two. As a result, an enormous
historical literature, and a variety of popular myths, surround
the Roosevelt Era. In this discussion-based course, we will examine
and evaluate the debates surrounding critical aspects of the New
Deal and World War Two, such as their role as "watershed"
events in American history, their impact on socially disadvantaged
groups, and the changes they wrought in the governance of the country.
In addition, we will examine controversial aspects of Roosevelt's
presidency, particularly the American response to teh Holocaust,
and the decision to intern Japanese-American citizens during World
War Two. |
