Monkey
Bite

I spent
today exploring the public health system in Recife while my professor and
I searched for an anti-rabies vaccination.
My visit to the Ariaú Jungle Hotel in Amazonas was a positive
experience overall, however I am somewhat disturbed with what happened to
me.

Vaccinations
for rabies are given here.

It
only hurts for a minute.

As Martha, Beth, our travel guide, and I began our journey to the nearest
clinic in search of the anti-rabies vaccination, I felt calm and as if
what we were about to do was routine.
I suppose these feelings were normal because, at that point, I was
unaware of the chaos that lay ahead of me.
Yes, my tiny monkey bite hurt a bit, but I was not in any
unbearable pain. I imagined
my destination to resemble a high-scale American hospital.
Little did I know that my day had just begun and that the journey
would not come to an end until nine hours later.
