The first formal meeting of ISO was held at the Shamrock Hilton Hotel in Houston, Texas on January 11, 1986. Attending that meeting were Pierre Demarque, David H. De Vorkin, Ken Janes and A. G. Davis Philip. ISO was incorporated on Dec 2, 1987. We received confirmation of our tax free status on February 24, 1988.

Grants have been received from NASA, STScI & NSF. These grants have supported investigations of horizontal-branch stars, normal B and Hg-Mn Stars, IDEA Program and support of a meeting sponsored by ISO, The Third Conference on Faint Blue Stars.

ISO has been a sponsor or co-sponsor of the following meetings: Horizontal-Branch and UV-Bright Stars (Greenbelt, Maryland, 1985), IAU Colloquium No. 95, The Second Conference on Faint Blue Stars (Tucson, Arizona, 1987), Calibration of Stellar Ages (Middletown, Connecticut, 1988), The Gravitational Force Perpendicular to the Galactic Plane (Danbury, Connecticut, 1989), CCDs in Astronomy. II. (Charleston, South Carolina, 1990), IAU Symposium No. 167, New Developments in Array Technology and Applications (The Hague, 1994), Photometric Systems and Standard Stars (Lithuania, 1995), 30 Years of Astronomy at the Van Vleck Observatory (Middletown, Connecticut, 1996, The Third Conference on Faint Blue Stars (Schenectady, NY, 1996), Meeting in Honor of the 90^th Birthday of Doritt Hoffleit (New Haven, Connecticut, 1996) and The K^thReunion (Cleveland, 1998). ISO is as co-sponsor of the Workshop on The Stromlvil Photometric System which was held in Vilnius, Lithuania, October 5 - 8, 1999

Current research programs underway at ISO consist of the following:

Philip, Boyle, Straizys - Stromvil photometry of open and globular clusters. The Stromvil photometric system is being set up using the VATT on Mt. Graham in Arizona. The system is being applied to the study of globular clusters. M 92 is the best observed cluster at the present time. CCD frames have been taken in the Vilnius, Stomgren and Stromvil systems. Some additional frame have been obtained in M 3 and M 5.

Adelman - High dispersion spectroscopy of early-type stars.

Philip, Adelman - Spectroscopy and photometry of field horizontal-branch A-type stars.
